Biography
Some phantoms are really just along for the ride as Kanika represents their only chance at a life beyond being hunted. They're not particularly malevolent and just want to try this pizza everyone is raving about. Illdath is not one of those. Illdath is an ancient aboleth who brokered a deal with Daurgacalaun to save his people during the Era of the Purge when submarines and naval battleships were hunting down the creatures of the sea. He is a prideful creature and held out for so long because he loathed the idea of serving dragons. Once his will was broken, he became a malevolent creature towards all humankind. He is still not the friendliest with the dragons who command him but is at least professional about their relationship.
Illdath has been kept a secret by the phantoms but he never stopped operating. He is an immensely powerful psion and has even learned the basics of sahad magic, for the explicit purpose of being able to roam freely. So he can fly around in space basically. He typically operates through manipulating shetou into doing things for him with his proxy agents. Sirens and other such creatures managed to blend into Sol civilization over time, but there are quite a few in a sort of cult that worships Illdath. His deal with Kanika did save their ancestors after all. Through them he makes contact with the rest of the world without revealing himself.
Aryn notes that Ilex should never try to probe him or his followers. Illdath is a flat out stronger psion and specializes in temptation, something Ilex and his cohorts like Vasia might be particularly weak to. While the synapse might lend him some psionic leverage, she still recommends DON'T FUCKING DO IT ILEX.
