Pandem
Pandem magic is the art of channeling another power source to produce desired effect. Demons and devils are the most popular power sources of pandem magic, while it rarely draws from a specific demon it draws from the planes power as a whole. The only reason pandem is capable of producing effect is that it draws power from another plane which is alien in nature to the plane they summon its power to.
Hellfire is not uncommon in Finsir and most things there take little effect from touching it, but channeling it into the middle planes has incredible effect as the flames purge anything they come in contact with. The real power of pandem is it's ease in creating and manipulating rift portals on a very small level to create spells.
Upon occassion, pandem magic can borrow power from a direct source such as a demon overlord. That overlord's power is drained when the caster uses his power, assuming he still allows it to happen. The benefit to this is that the caster gets a source more powerful then a broad planar existence, but usually is having to pay that overlord in some way to gain access to this power.
Pandem is surprisingly potent and easy to gain access to, but it's applications are very few and tend to be destructive in nature. It is also unstable for ethi technology and tends to be highly volatile. These traits have made it an undesirable practice, while it can be used safely it has very few applications. It also has a side effect of corrupting the body of whoever uses it and any offspring they might create, warping their very genetics with traces from the planes they channel from. It is not socially approved of to practice pandem or even to cast it once given the long lasting repercussions.
Similar to the other branches of magic, pandem masters and practitioners are awarded titles regardless of social approval. Especially in Shetou where they don't always care that much. These titles are similar to "doctor" in that they are awarded only to those who have earned it, but for Pandem it is rather derogatory sometimes despite how much pride it might be worth to the owner.
Pandem has a long and controversial history. Dating back to the medieval periods where it was thought to be only related to demonic summonings which is how the stigma began. It was later discovered after the Era of Rising that all methods of channeling other planes or beings were in the same type of magic. This resulted in a lot of controversy because the most verbal opposition to pandem came from divine clerics and paladins. Arcanists proved that divine magic was actually pandem channeling the "gods" that those clerics worshipped. In time understanding of pandem magic and its capabilities expanded and more applications were found for it then just demonic or celestial related.
Witcher
The title of witchers earned by anyone who uses
pandem enough that corruption of their body has become evident. The term witcher is usually used to show some degree of respect, as not all pandem wielders are actually bad people. Many mercenary soldiers utilize pandem magic, and so 'witcher' is a title of at least a lack of disrespect. Simply "witch" is used for intentional disrespect however.
Warlock
Awarded to true masters of pandem power, usually reserved for those who have majority control over their binds (more on that in the spellbook).
This term may not be well liked but to acknowledge it is respectful of at the very least the sheer power the individual possesses. Because there is no official organization or oversight, these titles are not accredited nor consistent. Generally if you regard someone as good enough with pandem to warrant respect you would use the title, even just to inform someone else what kind of person you are talking about.
